In 2015, skincare meant using makeup wipes, coconut oil, and harsh scrubs like apricot or coffee. But by 2025, skincare has become more scientific and barrier-friendly. According to dermatologist Dr. Vanita Rattan, double cleansing is now the new norm - starting with an oil-based cleanser followed by a gentle face wash.
Exfoliation has shifted from abrasive physical scrubs to gentle chemical exfoliants like lactic and mandelic acid, which smooth skin without causing damage. Moisturizing is no longer about heavy oils like coconut oil, but about using ceramide-rich creams that hydrate and repair the skin barrier.
Sunscreen has evolved from being ignored to becoming a daily essential with lightweight, inclusive formulations. For anti-aging, DIY coffee scrubs are out, and clinically-proven ingredients like retinol are in, helping reduce fine lines and boost collagen.
In short, skincare in 2025 is smarter, safer, and truly skin-first.
