In a world where bargaining with the local kabadiwala is a norm, 25-year-old Mukul Chhabra saw an opportunity to transform this unorganised scrap market into a seamless digital service.
Inspired by his maternal uncle's scrap business and personal experiences, Mukul founded ScrapUncle in 2019 while still a student at IIT Delhi.
Understanding the key pain points: lack of safety, inconsistent pricing, and no on-demand service, he developed a platform that allows users to schedule scrap pickups via an app or website.
The scrap is then collected by verified agents, segregated, and sent for recycling. With over 22,000 pickups and 2,000 tonnes of scrap collected in Delhi NCR, ScrapUncle is helping reduce waste and streamline recycling.
The startup gained nationwide attention after a fiery pitch on Shark Tank India Season 2, where Mukul bagged a deal of ₹60 lakh for 5% equity, doubling his valuation in minutes.
With over 30,000 signups post-episode, the future looks bright for ScrapUncle. It's not just a recycling service- it's a cleaner, smarter way to deal with waste.
