RCB’s Power Play! KKR Falls in Season Opener!

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) marked an impressive start to their IPL 2025 campaign with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. The match showcased a well-rounded performance from the Bengaluru-based team, with both their bowling and batting units delivering effectively.

After winning the toss, newly appointed RCB skipper Rajat Patidar opted to bowl first, a decision that paid off immediately. Josh Hazlewood set the tone with an early breakthrough, dismissing Quinton de Kock in the very first over. Despite a slow start, Ajinkya Rahane (56 off 31) and Sunil Narine (44 off 26) built a strong 103-run partnership, helping KKR reach 60 runs within the powerplay. However, once their stand was broken, the innings lost momentum, with only Angkrish Raghuvanshi (30) managing to contribute significantly. Krunal Pandya emerged as the standout bowler for RCB, claiming three wickets for just 29 runs, while Hazlewood maintained pressure with his disciplined spell of 2/22.

Chasing a target of 175, RCB's opening pair wasted no time. Phil Salt, who played for KKR last season, made a striking impact with a quickfire 56 off 31 balls, forming a solid 95-run stand with Virat Kohli. Kohli, anchoring the chase, remained unbeaten with 59 off 36 balls, showcasing his signature composed aggression. Patidar added a crucial 34 off 16 balls, ensuring RCB wrapped up the chase comfortably in just 16.2 overs.

With a well-rounded performance in the season opener, RCB has sent a strong message to their competitors. Meanwhile, KKR will need to reassess their middle-order batting woes before their next match.
