
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is considering allowing basic non-programmable calculators in Class 12 accountancy exams to ease the cognitive load of lengthy calculations. A panel will be formed to establish guidelines on the permissible calculator models, ensuring uniformity and preventing misuse.
Currently, only students with special needs are allowed to use calculators. However, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) permitted their use for Class 12 students in 2021. The CBSE curriculum committee believes this change will reduce stress, improve performance, and enhance analytical responses, aligning with international educational standards.
Additionally, CBSE is exploring an On-Screen Marking (OSM) system to digitize answer sheet evaluations, ensuring faster and more efficient processing. A pilot run may begin for select subjects in Classes 10 and 12 during the 2024-25 academic session. These refo
