Following the Indian military's Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps in Pakistan after a deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir, India is sending an all-party parliamentary delegation abroad to reinforce its zero-tolerance stance on terrorism.
Congress MP and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor has been selected to lead one of these delegations, despite facing criticism from his party for supporting the government's actions.
Six other MPs from across political lines, including Kanimozhi (DMK), Supriya Sule (NCP-SP), Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP), Baijayant Panda (BJP), Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU), and Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena), will also lead groups.
These delegations will visit key countries and UN Security Council members over a 10-day mission.
The initiative is being portrayed as a display of national unity that transcends party politics. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized the bipartisan nature of the effort on social media.
The aim is to present a united front internationally and project India's unwavering commitment to fighting terrorism in all forms. Additional names like Asaduddin Owaisi, Salman Khurshid, and Ghulam Nabi Azad are also expected to join.
This diplomatic outreach follows India’s strikes on terrorist sites, which were a direct response to a cross-border terror attack that killed 26 people.
