In a significant security operation, Assam Police has arrested seven individuals involved in illegally sharing Indian WhatsApp OTPs with Pakistan-based entities.
The breakthrough came after Gajraj Military Intelligence flagged suspicious activities, leading to a detailed technical analysis. The case was officially registered on May 14 under the Special Task Force (STF), triggering Operation Ghost SIM.
Assam DGP Harmeet Singh confirmed that arrests were made in multiple locations, including Bharatpur and Alwar in Rajasthan, Hyderabad, and even at Guwahati airport.
The accused were helping Pakistani operatives create WhatsApp accounts using Indian SIM cards by sharing one-time passwords (OTPs), effectively disguising foreign accounts as India-based.
Authorities revealed that these SIM cards were not only used for cybercrimes but also for anti-national activities. Evidence indicates a clear link between the arrested individuals and hostile foreign elements using Indian digital identities for covert operations.
This operation underscores the growing threat of cross-border digital espionage and cyber infiltration. Assam Police continues to investigate deeper networks involved in this racket, reinforcing national cybersecurity vigilance.
